A real garden show featuring plants, gardening supplies, garden decor, lectures and gardening information.

This event will be held rain or shine and is a great way to get your green thumb on!  Master Gardeners are once again planning their plant sale and will be on hand to offer advice and help with gardening questions.  The “Garden Shed” will be open for event visitors to shop for garden bargains. 

Lectures:
11:00 am: Prairie Plants of Prophetstown: How to incorporate these native gems into landscape designs
Professor Melinda M. Appold, Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, Purdue University and students from a service-learning course with Prophetstown State Park will present a program on how to successfully incorporate native prairie plants into an Indiana landscape. The talk focuses on introducing plants for different situation, what to expect when using this type of plants palette, and how to balance scale when adding them in with existing plants. They will also discuss how to use these plant to attract native pollinators, seasonal changes and how to maintain them without burning. There will be an opportunity to purchase these native plants at the plant sale. Come and learn what plants would be a good fit for your garden and then purchase them while at the event.

1:00 pm: Stick and Stems: Propagation with Stem Cuttings
Co-Speakers: Kathryn Reeves and Mike Hathaway will discuss how to propagate plants with stem cuttings in easy steps. Supplies, tools, different kinds of plant materials from soft stem to hardwood cuttings, house plants, garden plants, succulents, different techniques, and when to take cuttings. If you want a beautiful garden without spending a lot of money this session is for you.
Speaker Bios: Kathryn Reeves and Mike Hathaway are artists, photographers & gardeners. Mike is Assistant Director of Purdue University Galleries. Before retiring, Kathryn was an art professor at Purdue University. Kathryn also taught in the College of Design at Iowa State University and worked as a garden designer with a landscape architect. Though both Kathryn and Mike are experienced gardeners, they are happy to be new Master Gardener Interns.
